 IN THE AGE OF AI

We are now in the age of AI. AI is a set of tools that help you maximize an objective function. There is a new tech war between the United States and China. AI is causing a labor force disruption. 50% of jobs will be threatened due to AI. Workers are let off or left with low-paying jobs due to automation and tech processes. AI is the future of work.

We have been introduced to artificial learning which is the deep thinking of the human brain. One type of intelligence will beat the other. In other words, our human intelligence cannot compete with artificial intelligence. Although Artificial Intelligence has brought many pros, there have also been some complications. AI challenges democracy and equality. This is a wake-up call for the government. The government wants to catch up, they don’t want the people having better technology than them.

There was a pivotal moment where AI became mature. Everyone was quick to jump on the bandwagon of AI. This is going to reshape every concept of the economy as well as every aspect of our lives. There has recently been some skepticism and caution. Privacy is one of these big problems everyone is starting to question. Many critics are questioning google saying that- we are not searching google, google is searching us. We aren’t using social media; social media is using us. It doesn't matter what you post, it matters that you post. The smallest surplus of detail has huge value to social media companies. Privacy is a big concern with all of our newfound technology. Everyone is now left questioning “can tech take over human intelligence?”

Although there is a lot of skepticism many are optimistic saying that “change is good”. The people of Silicone Valley are saying “we need to trust technology.”

China is said to be leading the world by 2030 which is crazy since that is only 9 years away!  China now leads the world in e-commerce, facial recognition, etc. They have had amazing progress. Even though China started off as “copycats and laggards” to the U.S. 15 years ago, they have developed their own form of entrepreneurship and are now as good and developed as the US. The United States is ahead in technology, however, China has a bigger economy.

China has been the first country to take facial recognition to commercial quality. This means that people can pay for their groceries without swiping a card or paying cash!! The technology is so advanced they can just pay with a smile. This has come with some critics such as it being an experimental credit program. This is most likely going to lead to many credit scandals. This facial recognition has been accused of a punishment program. It is troublesome in terms of liberty.

Deep learning is used in every sector of society. Machines help us become more creative and helps lead us to better solutions. Deep learning and machines don’t only help companies, but also hospitals. For example, advanced technology has helped progress breast cancer imaging. This will help thousands and thousands of women. AI has become a new symbiotic tool for doctors and lawyers. It is slowly fundamentally replacing our work and it is doing it better than we ever could. Only the future can tell where exactly AI is going to lead us.
